The Barth Syndrome Foundation’s (BSF) international Scientific and Medical Advisory Board is a dedicated team of researchers and physicians who generously donate their time and expertise to our mission. Without them, we would not be able to review grant applications with multi-dimensional expertise or write medically-approved educational materials about Barth syndrome. These eminent scientists and physicians are central to our goals and our operation. BSF is incredibly pleased to introduce our members, each of whom has agreed to serve for a four-year term. This international group forms the review panel for research grants and provides scientific and medical advice and guidance to BSF's Board of Directors.
W. Todd Cade, PT, PhD, Chairman
Professor and Division Chief, Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program, Duke University School of Medicine
Recently appointed as the Division Chief for Duke University’s DPT program, Dr. Cade´s research interests include mechanisms and treatments for whole-body and myocardial nutrient metabolism abnormalities in various metabolic diseases. He has been involved with BSF since 2006 when he first attended our international conference and since played an instrumental role in expanding BTHS physiology research and understanding. Dr. Cade received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, College Park, his Master’s in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami, his PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and his postdoctoral training in Endocrinology-Metabolism from Washington University School of Medicine. In his 17-year tenure at Washington University, Dr. Cade has overseen the training program of the postdoctoral fellows, including those on the NIH-funded T32 program, developed and implemented policies regarding the selection of candidates, budgeting, research training and evaluation. He has been an NIH funded researcher for his entire career, and currently holds or has held several positions of academic leadership including currently serving as Chair of the Scientific Review Committee for the Foundation of Physical Therapy Research, and the Longer Life Foundation Scientific Advisory Board. He 2 previously served for nine years as an Editorial Board member of Physical Therapy Journal; the flagship journal of the American Physical Therapy Association.
