Finance and Investments Committee

The Finance and Investments Committee is a committee of the Barth Syndrome Foundation (BSF) Board of Directors (the “Board”) established under Article III Section 17 of the By-Laws. The Committee shall be comprised of at least two Directors, as appointed by the Board, each for a term ending with his/her Board term. The Board Treasurer serves as Chair of the Committee. The Committee is responsible for overseeing BSF’s annual budget, including performance against budget, investments and overall financial health.

Emily Milligan

Emily Milligan

Emily has spent her career dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families through scientific advancements and addressing unmet needs in underserved populations. A resident of Needham, MA, Emily graduated from the University of Florida (2002) and received her Master of Public Health (MPH) from Columbia University (2006). Trained as a sociologist focused on community health, Emily completed her internship while stationed at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Nicaragua.  

Emily brings years of experience managing research portfolios and innovating business models in the nonprofit sector. Previously, she was a vital contributor at Columbia University where she was a founding member of the Center for Social Inequalities and Health.  She went on to join JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) where she headed the research operations and scientific teams and oversaw an average annual $100 million research portfolio. More recently, Emily launched the T1D Fund, an $80 million, mission-driven venture fund that invests in companies developing life-saving products for individuals living with type one diabetes. She has been a guest speaker at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and co-authored guidance documents on patient-focused drug development standards.   

Emily cherishes the 4 children in her life - Anaclara, Leonardo, Laura, and Camilo - and spends a majority of her down time traveling with her family. She is an active member of her community and church, and volunteers her time for other organizations focused on social change and alleviating human suffering. She is also an avid cyclist and landscaper and most loves spending time on the family farms.
