Governance Committee

The Governance Committee is a committee of the Barth Syndrome Foundation (BSF) Board of Directors (the “Board”) established under Article III, Section 17 of the By-Laws. The Committee shall be comprised of at least two Directors appointed by the Board. It may also include the Executive Director as a non-voting member, ex-officio member. Each member of the Committee will serve for a term ending with his/her Board term. The Committee is responsible for recommending candidates for Board membership, including the Board Chair, overseeing education of new Board members, and periodically reviewing BSF’s By-Laws and policies and making recommendations to the Board as appropriate.

Michelle Florez

Michelle Florez

Mrs. Florez is a Senior Product Manager for Banker’s Toolbox, the leading software provider of Bank Secrecy Act anti-money laundering compliance and fraud detection solutions for financial institutions. She has been with Banker’s Toolbox for over seven years. Previously, Mrs. Florez worked fifteen years at a leading Texas financial institution in the BSA/AML and Fraud detection departments. 

Mrs. Florez is also the mother of three wonderful children, Michael (would be 17), Matthew (age 13), and Angelina (age 4).  Mrs. Florez joined the Barth Syndrome Foundation in 2003 when her oldest son, Michael, was diagnosed with Barth syndrome at the age of one.  Michael passed away in 2009 due to Barth syndrome at the age of seven. Mrs. Florez, her husband, Angelo, and her children reside in Kyle, Texas.
